For that Summer Glow and Fresh Look

Look and feel great first of all by staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water, for a cool taste add lemons or cucumbers to your water.
To prolong your makeup and shadow and avoid that heavy creasing and smudging apply a face or eye primer to help minimize the creasing. Jane Iredale makes an oil control primer with a SPF 15 that works great.
For your eyeliner, use pencil eyeliner and also try them in different colors besides black. This summer go with blue, green and turquoise. If you are going to be out in the water, be sure to use water proof mascara, just remember you will need an oil base eye make up remover. If you find you don’t have one, a quick fix is use a little olive oil to gently remove the water proof mascara.

During this season go a little lighter with your make up foundation. Try a lighter tinted make up or a tinted moisturizer. If you have a foundation you already use and it is a great shade for you mix 1 part foundation to 2 parts moisturizer for your very own custom tinted moisturizer. There are several options to get that sun kissed glow. Bronzers give a quick healthy glow. You can use a powder bronzer by applying with a big powder brush; emphasize the higher points of the face. Apply to the top of the forehead, cheeks top of nose, basically your T zone area where the sun would naturally bronze you.
If you need to deepen your foundation you can add a little bronzer to your foundation. Most foundations have a SPF in them if you need more protection or if you are just going to wear a little moisturizer add a little of your sunscreen in your moisturizer.

Lip glosses go for the high shine in a subtle neutral in peach or a pale flirty pink.
For your cheeks use the same tone or shade as your lips a peach or baby pink.

Self tanners work great to give your body an all over tan. Be sure to exfoliate prior to applying a self tanner for an even and smooth application. Safe tan, a self tan product is great. It’s worth getting it professionally done the first time then you can touch up at home or purchase it and apply yourself with a light sponge.

Be sure to keep your hair protected while outdoors by wearing a hat if you can.
Apply a conditioning mask to the hair while playing outdoors. Aveda just launched a new hair care line that makes it easy to protect your hair while in the outdoors and a shampoo to get that chlorine out if you are in the pool excessively.
Apply your sunscreen every day prior to going outside using a full spectrum UVA, UVB sunscreen for maximum protection. Wear a hat and cover up if you are going to be out for prolonged periods.
Enjoy and be safe. Beat the Summer Heat this summer

Further Scientific Study Promotes the Benefits of Massage

Exciting news for massage goers and the spa industry!  When the New York Times runs an article about a new study showing that “a single session of massage caused biological changes”.  Recent Studies at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles recruited 53 healthy adults and randomly assigned 29 of them to a 45-minute session of deep-tissue Swedish massage and the other 24 to a session of light massage.

Volunteers who received Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol in blood and saliva, and in arginine vasopressin, a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. They also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system.

Volunteers who had the light massage experienced greater increases in oxytocin, a hormone associated with contentment, than the Swedish massage group, and bigger decreases in adrenal corticotropin hormone, which stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol.

Therapeutic massage was found to promote general well-being, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone. Massage now proven to do more than just relax your body and mind - there are physiological and psychological changes that occur with massage. Enjoy the benefits of massage today and de-stress your body while calmness enfolds your body.
